Affordance in UI

"An affordance is a relationship between the properties of an object and the capabilities of the agent that determine just how the object could be possibly be used"
Don Norman

When you design is your job that the object you design fits your target group of people, and that the object you design affords your target group of people to use it in a way so they can discover and understand how your product works.

In other words, in UI affordances are cues (signifiers) that show users how to interact with an UI component. Users don´t need a guide to learn how an interface work because a good affordances make interfaces intuitive.
